How to Extract Pages from a PDF
Save one page, a range of pages or every page of a PDF as separate files, learn how to write page ranges, and choose between splitting and deleting pages.
Common reasons to extract pages
Long PDFs often contain more than you want to share. You may need to send one invoice from a monthly batch, a single chapter of a report, the signature page of a contract, or one payslip from a year-end bundle. Extracting pages creates a new, smaller PDF containing only those pages, while the original stays unchanged.
How to extract pages
Split PDF runs in your browser, so the document is not uploaded.
- Open Split PDF and select your document. Enter the password if it is protected.
- Choose how to extract: page ranges, selected pages or all pages.
- Enter ranges such as 1-3, 6, 9-12, or pick pages in the preview.
- Split the PDF and download the result. Multiple output files are delivered together in a ZIP file.
Writing page ranges
Page ranges use a simple format. Page numbers refer to the position in the PDF, which can differ from the numbers printed on the pages if the document has a cover or roman-numeral front matter.
- A single page: 4
- A continuous range: 5-9
- Several pages and ranges: 1-2, 7, 10-12
Split every page into its own file
When a PDF is really a collection of separate documents, such as 30 scanned receipts or a batch of one-page invoices, choose the option to extract all pages. Each page becomes its own PDF, and they download together in a ZIP file with the page numbers in the filenames.
Extract pages or delete pages?
Both approaches create a smaller PDF. Choose whichever needs fewer clicks.
- Keeping a few pages from a long document: extract them with Split PDF.
- Removing a few pages from an otherwise complete document: use Delete PDF Pages.
- Reordering what is left: follow up with Rearrange PDF.
After extracting
Rename the new files so their contents are obvious, for example Contract-Signature-Page.pdf rather than document-page-7.pdf. If you need to combine extracted pages from several documents into one, use Merge PDF. And if the extracted pages are scans that are too large to email, compress them with Compress PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Does extracting pages change the original PDF?
No. Split PDF creates new files and leaves the original unchanged.
How do I save one page of a PDF?
Enter that page number as the range in Split PDF, or select only that page, and download the new single-page PDF.
Can I extract pages on a phone?
Yes. Split PDF works in mobile browsers. The result downloads to your phone like any other file.
